SASB

The Settlement Agents Supervisory Board regulates the State's settlement industry.  It is the independent statutory authority established under the Settlement Agents Act 1981 to regulate people who conduct settlement transactions.

The Board is the licensing and supervisory authority.  It issues licenses to people who are suitably qualified and experienced, and supervises industry compliance with the Act and the standards of conduct required under the Settlement Agents Code of Conduct 1982.

The goal of the Board is for the people of Western Australia to have confidence in the settlement industry.

This site has been established by the Board to provide valuable information to industry participants and the public.

Review of the settlement agents legislation

The SASB has released a discussion paper to review the Settlement Agents Act 1981, the Settlement Agents Regulations 1982 and the Settlement Agents' Code of Conduct 1982.

The discussion paper has been sent to all licensed settlement agents, the peak industry bodies and other organisations representing or regulating the real estate industry and legal practitioners.

The discussion paper examines a wide range of issues affecting the operation of the legislation. It identifies some potential amendments to improve the legislation's effectiveness. The SASB invites feedback on these matters and the closing date for submissions is Monday 30 June 2008.

The discussion paper can be downloaded from the website by accessing the following link: Settlement Agent Discussion Paper April 2008.
